Relative Spirit

by Gary Floyd & Doug Hilsinger

IJ Davila Gary and Doug have recorded something very special here. This is the first album of what Floyd calls "spiritual Music". Steeped in prominent themes of Eastern philosophies, all of these songs carry with them a sense of place. A reflection of faith, made in the most honest way. The spiritual percussion that opens the record ("Hail Godess") reminds us to over all, be thankful. This album has been so helpful to me during the covid-19 outbreak and "lockdown" that followed. A thing of true beauty. Favorite track: Listen Close.

By and By 04:31
We are tossed and driven on The restless sea of time Somber skies and howling tempests Often hide the bright sunshine In the land of perfect day When the mist had rolled away We'll understand it better by and by By and by Oh when the morning comes When the saints of life have gathered home We'll tell the story of how we've overcome And understand it better by and by We are often destitute Of the things that life demands Want of food and want of shelter Can undo the honest man We are trusting in the love From within and from above Oh we'll understand it better by and by By and by Oh when the morning comes When the saints of life have gathered home We'll tell the story of how we've overcome And we'll understand it better by and by Trials dark on every hand And we can not understand All the ways our heart will lead us To the blessed and promised land When love guides us with it's eyes And we follow till we die And understand it better by and by Oh by and by Oh when the day is done When the saints of life have gathered home We will tell the story of how we've overcome And understand it better by and by Oh understand it better by and by

When the shadows of the world come to haunt me, Lord And love seems so far away And love seems so far away Only take me to thy bosom, Lord Let me forget all else but thee When in doubt, I vainly try to seek to find my comfort, Lord In the things that pass away In the things that pass away Only take me to thy bosom, Lord Let me forget all else but Thee All else but Thee will pass away, My Lord Like the dew in midday sun Like the dew in midday sun And when the dewdrops shimmer brighty, Lord, Let me me remember the brighter ones The brighter ones Oh, My Lord don't let me wander from Thy shining light Just a fall of fireflies Just a fall of fireflies Only take me to thy bosom, Lord Let me forget all else but Thee All else but Thee will pass away, My Lord Like the dew in midday sun Like the dew in midday sun And when the dewdrops shimmer brighty, Lord, Let me me remember the brighter ones The brighter ones

Sunny Side 04:24
There's a dark and a troubled side of life There's a bright and a sunny side too Though we meet with the darkness and strife The sunny side we also may view Keep on the sunny side Always on the sunny side Keep on the sunny side of life It will help us every day It will brighten all our way Keep on the sunny side of life Oh the storm and it's fury broke today Crushing hopes that we carried so dear The clouds and the storm will pass away The sun again will shine bright and clear Keep on the sunny side Always on the sunny side Keep on the sunny side of life It will help us every day It will brighten all our way If we keep on the sunny side of life Let us greet with a song of hope each day Though the moment be cloudy or fair Let us trust in our heart's love always To keep us, everyone in it's care Keep on the sunny side Always on the sunny side Keep on the sunny side of life It will help us every day It will brighten all our way If we keep on the sunny side of life Keep on the sunny side Always on the sunny side Keep on the sunny side of life It will help us every day It will brighten all our way If we keep on the sunny side of life Just keep on the sunny side of life

I am moving toward the mountain What had passed can't linger on Watch the sun dance on the fountain Drink from it and sing along We are moving from the dark into the light Rest has come Our battles done We've won the fight As I climb I see the loved ones Who had left us long ago I can feel their hear hearts are beating As we sing in love's warm glow We are moving from the dark into the light Rest has come Our battles done We've won the fight Just as dreams seem real When we wake with broken hearts Tears all disappear When the Sun tears night apart Life is such a dream Once dream ends and another starts We will gather here forever Deva Loka is my home And as we pass over the mountains We shall dance and sing along We are moving from the dark into the light Rest has come Our battles done We've won the fight We are moving from the dark into the light Rest has come Our battles done We've won the fight

about

Gary: Stepping out of the comfort zone is good Medicine for the mind and the music. This collection of songs ended up being that medicine for myself and Doug.
It started as a one song project . A song for the Mother. The Big Mother. Both of us coming from rock, blues, punk....etc. why not make a chant-like spiritual prayer song? No reason not to! It grew. Every time we finished one song another one fell in line. It became a parental challenge to raise them up to be their best....always turning out different than we planned but surprisingly able to stand on their own. We loved them. We didn’t expect it to be as it is but coming from the punk ethic of “do it the way you want to do it”, well, we did and here it is. Proudly.
I sing. I say what I want. I sing how I feel. I always have. Doug was the one who interpreted my thoughts. Adding his unbelievable skill in musical translation with instrumental ability we did a group of songs the way we wanted to do them. He pushed me more than I like to be pushed....I am surprisingly very thankful for that.
Music is the great release of emotional expression. Here is our spiritual release. The relative spirit.

Doug: Over all, it's a multi-faithed collection of songs that inspire positivity, reflection, beauty, truth, and love. What a joy it was for me to work with Gary again, especially on such special musics!

Please take the time listen to the whole collection of songs in one sitting! It works best as a whole piece. It's not long. Take some time out and bask in the meditative peace and love in these songs! Good for your soul and well being! LOVE!

The cover profile pic was taken during the recording sessions for these musics, on my back porch at home.. This is what we looked like then, in the time of making these musics. <3
